READ THE SYMBOLS
They Have Meaning
Freethought Forum
By Jordan Maxwell

Mankind has communicated in many ways for thousands of years. One of the oldest methods is by the use of symbols, the earliest being primitive c drawings on cave walls. Later, as man's mind developed, so did the use of symbols. One of the most interesting uses of symbolism is in the ancient religions. Thus much of the ancient world thinking is still with us today. For example, we have today, in Washington, D.C., the Washington Monument which is an Egyptian obelisk, a phallic symbol. It connects to the female Oval Office. Next to it is a long reflecting pool of water. Water itself is also a religious symbol, the Fons Vitae or Waters of Life. It was understood by the ancients that when you were born you came "out of your mother's water" and so if one wishes to change one's life and start over, so to speak, one must be baptized or submerged in water, thereby being "born again" out of the water.

It followed that if the Earth is our mother ("Mother Earth" or "Mother Nature") and every year in the spring she is impregnated with the fluid of life (rain), the source of this fluid must be "God the Father." In the ancient land of Canaan, at the start of each year they would celebrate the new life coming in Spring. Symbolically speaking, Mother (Earth) would ask God's Sun (son) to draw water (evaporation) so that it could rain for the grapes to grow (turn water into wine) so they could all celebrate the resurrection to new life in the spring. This was because the Sun (son) which was dead in winter came back (resurrected) or "Passed Over" to his new life in spring.

Just as we have major religious cults or movements today which strongly differ with each other as to the correct "way" to the divine or God, so it was in the world of our ancestors. We find the truly ancient "Stella Cult," or those who found God in the stars (astronomy/astrology). Then we have the old solar cults or those that recognized the attributes of God represented by the sun, not necessarily that the sun was in fact God, but the divine qualities of God were symbolized by the sun. (Life Giver —Provider of Food—Light of the World.)

And of course there are the ancient Luna Gods and Goddesses, deifications of the moon. This cult would naturally begin its days from sundown to sundown (when the moon appears). And it would follow that all Holy Days would begin after sundown. The moon God of Moses' day was named Sin and his mountain was Sin-ail

All religions and governments are still influenced by early symbols and mythology. We need to get back to the origin of the symbols in order to understand the sources of our fantastic beliefs today.
